It’s just another day at the office for the 1000 ducks hired by a vineyard in South Africa. These ducks are headed to the vineyard each day to eat the snails. A perfect alternative to pesticide use!
The Indian Runner ducks were chosen specifically for their build; their long slender necks and bodies navigate easily around the plants to catch the snails. And, while the ducks are a far more costly option for the vineyard, they have significantly reduced their pesticide use on their crops.
Way to go little ducks! For more photos and video from the vineyards, check out Reuters. Photo from Reuters.
