Puggles are a fun mix between Beagles and Pugs. They are extremely cute and combine many of the positive traits of both breeds. In the past, the mix of the two breeds may have happened as a, ‘mishap’, but now it is the goal of serious breeders. This cross breed has become quite popular because Puggles are fun, little dogs who are cute and loving. Puggles range in size depending on their breeding. Toy Puggles weight between 8 and 17 pounds while those of standard size weigh between 18 and 30 pounds.
Puggles are known as great companions and wonderful lap dogs. They make good family dogs because they play well with children and cooperate well in homes with other dogs and pets. They are friendly and have a great disposition.
Puggles can be trained because they are smart, but some Puggles do tend to bark. If you are looking for a quiet dog, this may not be your match. They can also have minds of their own in terms of training. Pugs and Beagles can be a bit stubborn, so it makes sense that Puggles may not take to training. In spite of this, Puggles are known to be friendly with other animals, family members, and people in general.
Grooming a Puggle is not a major undertaking. The dogs have a short, straight coat with an undercoat. Coloring varies based on their breeding and some have adorable black faces. You will want to bathe and brush your Puggle to keep its skin healthy. Also, you must make sure to clean the folds in the rolls in the skin. Beyond typical dental and nail care, eyes need to be cleaned as Puggles are prone to eye infections.
Potential health problems include hip dysplasia, eye problems, hypothyroidism, and respiratory problems. Proper veterinary care is essential to help a Puggle live a full and long life.
Puggles are such snuggly, little companions that they make a wonderful friend. They are great fun outside, although its best to keep them on leash because they have the Beagle urge to chase little critters. Perhaps those little rabbits and squirrels look like fluffy toys to a Puggle! Either way, you need to keep your little friend safe and on a leash outside. They should also be watched outside since this cross breed loves to dig!
If you’re having trouble choosing from the loving Beagle that has been honored in homes for a long time, or the adorable little pug who steals the hearts of all; consider getting the best of both worlds with a Puggle!
